ABOUT ME
I graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, majoring in Art Education. In 2014, I defended my master’s thesis on drawing under prof. Krystyna Saran-Garstka. I am the member of ZPAP (the Association of Polish Artists and Designers) since 2015.
We read the painting emotionally, intuitively. We begin a kind of dialogue between the artist and the audience. We try to find out what we feel, we wonder how it tastes, if it moves us.
I create within the areas of oil painting, acrylic painting and drawing. My pictures show an abstract take on nature and its mysteriousness. I also create works with great charge of emotions: sadness, reflection, love, loss, joy, helplessness. The main theme in these works are women.
I collaborate with art galleries. My artworks can be found in many private collections in Poland and abroad.
When I think about the beginnings of my painting, I think of my college friend Kropka (Eng.: “Dot”) (her name was actually Ewa). I had already defended my diploma thesis in drawing, and Ewa was preparing for her defence in painting. The whole artistic process of Ewa’s work took place at my house. I was always afraid to paint. With undisguised jealousy and admiration, I watched as Kropka places brushstrokes with energy, passion and fantasy. I have expressed it on many occasions, saying “Ewa, I’m so jealous of your painting, I’d like that too (and there was my sigh)”. After a couple of days, my friend probably got tired of it, because she gave me a brush and said: “Take it and paint for fuck’s sake!” And that’s how it all started.
Painting was also an art therapy for me. I was in the middle of therapeutic process and when something was too difficult, awkward or scary for me, I drew or painted. I later discussed these works with a psychotherapist. Obviously, there was a lot of symbolism in these drawings and paintings, yet also a great emotional charge.
I was born in a forester’s lodge as the sixth and last daughter. Perhaps my abstract presentation of nature stems from the fact that, when I was a child, my parents had to leave the forester’s lodge and we moved to Toruń, and now I paint my childhood memories.
In one of the episodes of “Domowe Rewolucje” (Polish TV show on interior design), during the transformation of an apartment for Leon and his mother, Dorota Szelągowska decided to buy one of my paintings.
“Spokój na molo” (Peace on the pier) – an acrylic painting on canvas – perfectly suited the new style of the apartment. Now, it helps the family relax every day, thanks to its calming colours.
